Ben Mendelsohn in Talks for Villain Role in ‘Captain Marvel’

It looks as though Ben Mendelsohn plans to keep to his devious ways as he is reportedly in negotiations to don the villain role in Marvel’s upcoming Captain Marvel movie. Variety first reported the news that would see Mendelsohn reunite with his Mississippi Grind directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The two originally had Mendelsohn in mind when first crafting ideas for the film, and if all goes as planned, the actor has a good chance of being a part of the film.

If the deal goes through, Mendelsohn will play the leader of the Srulls, an alien race that Marvel President Kevin Feige announced would be the main antagonist for the superhero. The film will take place in 1990 when Carol Danvers is an Air Force Pilot that absorbs alien superpowers during an accidental encounter, leaving her with the new abilities of super-strength, energy projection, and flight. Danvers/Captain Marvel is being played by Brie Larson, and the film will also feature Samuel L. Jackson returning to his role as Nick Fury.

After his role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and the upcoming Robin Hood: Origins and Ready Player One, Mendelsohn is surely putting his talents for wicked intensity to good use. That is also not to mention his Golden Globe-winning work on Netflix’s Bloodline in which he haunted the lives of his troubled family. Mendelsohn is certainly making his name known throughout Hollywood and will be a great grab for the film if the negotiations flourish.
