Just as Suicide Squad has become one of the most anticipated comic book movies of the year, there’s another DC project that could easily gain that same popularity. Despite the many criticisms of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, one of its saving grace’s was Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The Caped Crusader is confirmed to have a major presence in the DC Cinematic Universe, not to mention Affleck’s growing power behind-the-scenes as well. The actor was not only promoted to an executive producer on Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but he’s also doing a Batman solo movie.
While the “bigger” installments will have Batman alongside his fellow heroes in arms, DC Chief Creative Officer and Affleck have teased that the solo movie might showcase a plethora of iconic villains. No official plot synopsis has been released, although a delightful new rumor might just narrow down what the film will have in store for us. According to a recent report over Batman on Film, the site has had multiple sources tell them that the spinoff will be set in the notorious Arkham Asylum. If that wasn’t enough, the sources also state that the Caped Crusader will be trapped inside it. Considering that the location is filled with many of the criminals Batman has put away, there’s no telling what this could turn out to be.
Since its rise to fame in 1989’s Arkham Asylum: Serious House on Serious Earth, the terrifying location’s popularity has continued to grow. So it’s only natural that Arkham’s growing fanbase would convince Hollywood to put it front-and-center eventually. Because the solo movie won’t hit theaters for a few years, there’s still plenty of time for Affleck to develop its mysterious plot. Even though the film does not have an official release date yet, it will probably land in 2018 or 2019.
