Several DC movies are getting released this year, but The Flash easily prevails (in terms of promise and relevance) to Black Adam or Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The Andy Muschietti film, which faced so many hardships to get greenlit, is set to hit theaters on November 4, and starts with the intention of imposing a bit of order in the chaotic DC continuity. That is, the time travel that Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) makes to prevent his mother’s death and his father’s imprisonment should serve as a clean slate of the DC universe timelines … but also as a party a good number of characters is invited to.
Sasha Calle is confirmed to debut as Supergirl, Michael Zannon to return as Zod and Michael Keaton to do the same as Batman from the Tim Burton movies … but this is not the only Batman Barry will hang out with. Ben Affleck, who played the Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and both versions of Justice League, will return to DC in what he has confirmed as his last adventure wearing the Batsuit. Affleck has already said goodbye to Batman before (when he shot additional scenes in Zack Snyder’s Justice League), but he hasn’t ben able to refuse to participate in The Flash.
Fortunately for him, since based on what he told The Herald Sun, he has played the most satisfying scenes of his character. “I have never said this — this is hot off the presses — but maybe my favorite scenes in terms of Batman and the interpretation of Batman that I have done, were in the Flash movie,” the actor, who shined in an excellent supporting role in 2021’s The Last Duel, explained. “I hope they maintain the integrity of what we did because I thought it was great and really interesting — different, but not in a way that is incongruent with the character.”
“Who knows? Maybe they will decide that it doesn’t work, but when I went and did it, it was really fun and really, really satisfying and encouraging and I thought, ‘Wow — I think I have finally figured it out.’” Affleck hopes Muschietti won’t trim down his appearance in The Flash, and takes the opportunity to confirm that this will be the last time he plays the Dark Knight. Which is “a really nice finish on my experience with that character,” and enters an alternate reality which will be explored, a few months earlier, by Matt Reeves’ The Batman. On this occasion, the character will be played by Robert Pattinson, and the film opens on March 4.
