Bella Thorne and Patrick Schwarzenegger to Star in ‘Midnight Sun’

Bella Thorne and Patrick Schwarzenegger have been cast as the leads in the upcoming YA romance flick Midnight Sun. A remake of a Japanese film, the movie follows two characters during a summer romance.

Thorne will play a sheltered 17-year-old named Katie, who has a rare condition that makes even a tiny amount of sunlight possibly deadly. She lives cooped up in her parents’ house until the summer she meets Charlie, played by Schwarzenegger, and together they embark on a romance. The original Japanese film this movie is based on was released in 2006 and is called Song to the Sun in Japan.

Scott Speer, director of Step Up: Revolution (2012), is helming this project from a screenplay written by first-timer Eric Kirsten. The movie will be financed by Boies/Schiller Film Group and there are plans to start shooting in September.

Bella Thorne, a former Disney Channel star, most recently starred in The DUFF and has several other projects lined up in addition to Midnight Sun, including the MTV television series Scream and the movies Amityville: The Reawakening, Shovel Buddies, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, and a voice role for the upcoming Ratchet and Clank. Patrick Schwarzenegger will appear in the upcoming Dear Eleanor and Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.

Midnight Sun does not yet have a release date, though it seems likely it will hit theaters some time in 2016.
