‘Being the Ricardos’ Adds Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, Jake Lacy, and Clark Gregg

Being the Ricardos, biopic based on the lives of I Love Lucy stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, has started principal photography and has added Arrested Development alums in Alia Shawkat and Tony HaleRampage star Jake Lacy, and former MCU regular Clark Gregg.

Most of these are supporting to lead roles, while all of the characters, based on real people, were writers on the popular sitcom. Alia Shawkat and Jake Lacy will be portraying Madelyn Pugh and Bob Carroll Jr., who were writers and partners on the series. Tony Hale will be playing head writer Jess Oppenheimer, while Clark Gregg’s role is yet to be revealed.

These writers will play a significant role in the movie, which takes place over one week during the production of I Love Lucy. Aaron Sorkin will write and direct the film.

Based on Sorkin’s political drama there are sure to be fireworks between creative forces in this film. This will be one of Sorkin’s only films that will focus solely on the career path he chose. It will be interesting to see how it translates.

Rounding out the actors playing actors in Being the Ricardos are Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem as Ball and Arnaz, Nina Arianda as Vivian Vance, and JK Simmons as William Frawley, which is pretty perfect.

The production is slowly underway. There is no set release date for the project, though it can be expected at the end of this year or the next year, right in time for awards consideration.
