It is being reported that Emily Watson, Eddie Marsan, and Omari Douglas are joining the cast of Midas Man, a biopic film on music manager Brian Epstein. Swedish film director and music video director Jonas Åkerlund will be directing. Åkerlund has directed films such as Lords of Chaos, Polar, and Spun. He won a Grammy Award for his music video of Madonna’s song Ray of Light for Best Music Video.
The script was written by Jonathan Wakeham which was based on a story by Brigit Grant. Wakeham co-wrote the script for the crime drama Misanthrope starring Shailene Woodley.
Watson is set to portray Epstein’s mother and Marsan to portray his father. Douglas will play Epstein’s ever-trusted confidant and friend, Lonnie Trimble. They join previously announced Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, who will star as Epstein.
Midas Man follows Epstein’s meteoric rise to prominence at the age of 25 by discovering a slew of musicians such as Cilla Black, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and of course, The Beatles. He died in 1967 when he was only 32 from an accidental overdose of sleeping pills with alcohol.
Watson has starred in films like The Theory of Everything, The Book Thief, and Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
Marsan is expected to reprise his role as Inspector Lestrade for Sherlock Holmes 3, with Robert Downey Jr. Jude Law and Jared Harris also returning to reprise their roles.
Douglas had his breakout role in the HBO Max mini-series It’s a Sin.
