Since the rise of COVID-19 newest variant Omicron, events are getting canceled left and right and, unfortunately, BAFTA Los Angeles announced on Monday that its annual tea party had been canceled.
The pandemic began in 2020, and since then, COVID cases have been in-flux, with the third year making its way. A new variant called Omicron continues to rise, causing events like the BAFTA LA Tea Party to be canceled.
The annual BAFTA Tea Party was scheduled for an in-person event on January 8 at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.
In a statement regarding the tea party, BAFTA said:
“In an abundance of caution, we have taken the difficult decision to halt our plans to host the BAFTA Tea Party on January 8 in Los Angeles. We were anticipating gathering together in person. However, given the uncertainties around the impact, this current COVID-19 variant will have on our community, the prudent decision for BAFTA and our attendees is to delay resuming these large-scale events in Los Angeles.”
According to sources, the organization said it’s developing a new way to have tea with its attendees “Tea With a Nominee” digital programming in 2022.
While the BAFTA LA Tea Party is no longer happening, there are, however, BAFTA UK events like the 75th BAFTA Film Awards on March 13, 2022, the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on April 24, and the BAFTA TV Awards on May 8 are still on.
