He’s making a list and you can be damn sure he doesn’t care about it. Billy Bob Thornton will return as con man Willie Soke this holiday season in Bad Santa 2. This comes a whopping thirteen years after the original Bad Santa was released. IndieWire reported that back in 2012 Thornton told The Playlist, “We saw the first draft and we just had a few little things we wanted to take away or add and he’s doing that. The plan is to shoot that in the fall.” Add on five more years and you have yourself a highly anticipated sequel. In this situation, we can all shrug our shoulders and blame “Hollywood.”
Miramax and Broad Green Pictures will release the film this November. Thornton will star alongside Kathy Bates and Christina Hendricks. Bad Santa 2 is directed by Mean Girls alum Mark Waters. Shauna Cross (Whip It), Doug Ellin (Entourage), John Phillips (Dirty Grandpa), and Johnny Rosenthal wrote the script. Terry Zwigoff, who directed the original, obviously still has “no interest in sequels” as he so famously stated.
