Actors Awkwafina and Sandra Oh are teaming up for a sister comedy feature film with no title yet from Netflix. Jen D’Angelo, the screenwriter behind the upcoming Hocus Pocus sequel for Disney+, will write the script for the comedy.
Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum are producing the film together for Gloria Sanchez and Itay Reiss and Maggie Haskins from Artists First and D’Angelo, Awkwafina, and Oh.
The comedy follows a lonely hermit whose life is upended when her train wreck of a sister makes it her mission to mend their relationship by helping her fulfill her lifelong dream: to appear on her favorite game show.
D’Angelo is on a roll because she is also serving as a co-executive producer on the NBC series Young Rock starring Dwayne Johnson.
Oh, was an Emmy nominee for her British spy thriller series Killing Eve and best known for her role, playing Dr. Cristina Yang on ABC’s longtime running show Grey’s Anatomy. She is currently working on an upcoming supernatural horror film Umma. Her other acting roles include recently released Over the Moon from Netflix, a retelling of the classic Chinese myth, Princess Diaries, and Big Fat Liar.
Awkwafina is currently working on some major upcoming feature films for Disney. She will be lending her voice to the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid playing Scuttle and the animated fantasy movie Raya and the Last Dragon playing Sisu. Awkwafina also has a significant role in the Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
