The filming for the highly-anticipated 5th Avengers film is finally underway. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo posted on their Instagram a picture of a cast chair with the name “Victor Von Doom” printed on the back. The director duo captioned the photo with simply “Day one…,”signifying the beginning of shooting the film. This was confirmed by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, who in a press conference for the upcoming Thunderbolts* said that he was excited for actors “who’ve never met before on screen, meeting for the first time and interacting.” Actors set to star in Avengers: Doomsday have been arriving in London for the past couple weeks for filming, and people have become anxious to see if anyone unexpected makes an appearance.
This comes following a multiple hour livestream weeks back that Marvel Studios broadcasted, slowly revealing cast members for the film. Many of the usual suspects were revealed there, including Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston and Sebastian Stan. Additionally, many of the “Thunderbolts” are on the cast list as well as all four main actors from the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps. And of course, Robert Downey Jr. is back, this time playing Doctor Doom. The film was initially titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but after Jonathan Majors was fired from Marvel Studios projects, they pivoted away from Kang and towards the Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom.
The set release date for Avengers: Doomsday is May 1, 2026. This means Marvel Studios and the Russo Brothers have about a year to finish the film. This seems like adequate time, but an Avengers movie is a mighty task with tons of actors to direct and VFX to complete. The Russo Brothers directed the previous two Avengers movies, so they have experience, but it may be more difficult to pull this off.
