The release of Avatar: Fire And Ash draws closer as the film is just under two weeks from release. While its potential revenue is still subject to discussion, as is the fate of the next sequels, one of the main stars of the franchise always felt that Fire And Ash was the endgame of the series.
Avatar: Fire And Ash picks up in the wake of The Way Of Water as the Sully family mourn the loss of one of their own. But as they try to recover, a villainous Na’vi tribe known as the Ash Clan surface in hopes of ruining the beauty of Pandora.
Sam Worthington has been the leading man of the Avatar films as Jake Sully since the first installment in 2009. Although director James Cameron has been very open about planning more than two follow-ups after the first film became the highest grossing film, Worthington told Hollywood Reporter that Fire And Ash felt like the conclusive ending, even despite 4 and 5.
“Jake Sully said at the end of Avatar 2, ‘This is where we make our stand,’ so I think we know what’s coming. To me, this was always the final battle, the final showdown,” he said.
Hollywood Reporter also noted that Worthington’s comment comes after Cameron shared the possibility of him letting Avatar conclude here. Cameron explained that the Avatar films are highly expensive to make, and the gross needs to reflect what’s put in. He made it clear during an appearance on The Town With Matthew Belloni that if it doesn’t make enough to justify a fourth installment, he’s ready to conclude it with Fire And Ash.
Avatar: Fire And Ash hits theaters December 19th.
