Ashton Kutcher Says First 10 Minutes of ‘Triangle of Sadness’ Are A “Terrifying” Depiction of Male Modeling Industry

Ashton Kutcher began as model and has since gone on to become an entrepreneur, producer, and actor on projects such as That 70s Show (Michael Kelso), Two and a Half Men (Walden Schmidt), and The Butterfly Effect (Evan). Triangle of Sadness, a Ruben Ӧstlund film centered around a male model and his influencer girlfriend, was released in October of 2022. Kutcher has since praised the film as an “accurate depiction” of the male modeling industry.

During an interview with Esquire, he said, “If you actually want to see an extraordinarily accurate depiction of what it’s like to be a male model, watch the first 10 minutes of Triangle of Sadness.” Kutcher continues, “I remember living that scene. The depiction is so accurate, it’s terrifying.”

The film opens on a casting call attended by Harris Dickinson’s character Carl where the director asks the models to perform a “Balenciaga face” and an “H&M face.” The models switch quickly between the two types at the behest of the director. The rapid emotional changes are disquieting and paired with the director’s commentary, one can certainly see why Kutcher chose the descriptor “terrifying.”

Triangle of Sadness has earned many accolades, including the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
