As the pandemic continues to push back release dates and disappointment movie-goers, it brings worse news to those who love to watch movies in theaters. Pacific Theaters, which has about 300 screens around California including the famous and loved ArcLight theaters and the 58-year-old Cinerama Dome in Hollywood will not be reopening as planned.
“This was not the outcome anyone wanted, but despite a huge effort that exhausted all potential options, the company does not have a viable way forward,” the message stated.
On Sunset Boulevard lays the multiplex Hollywood ArcLight and the only concrete geodesic dome on earth, Cinerama Dome, which made an appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time. The dome remains as many filmmaker’s favorite venue. Olivia Wilde took to Instagram stating it was “the greatest night of my career” the night her directorial debut film Booksmart opened at the Cinerama Dome.
Many of the Arclight Cinemas are located in shopping centers, they even opened up a new location out of California in Boston. The Hollywood Arclight is also one of the highest grossing movie theaters in the nation. The company ended their statement with thanking those who have supported them for years.
“To our guests and members of the film industry who have made going to the movies such a magical experience over the years: our deepest thanks. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you.”
