Lord and Miller are back working on a brand new adaptation of a beloved comic book, but instead of Superheroes, they’ll be bringing an adaptation of Archie to the big screen. The Insneider was the first source to report on the film.
Since 1941, Archie has been a staple of comic book publications, with the characters going on to gain a similar notoriety akin to heroes like Superman and Spider-Man. Archie himself, along with his friends, have been adapted for live action several times over the years, including the recent TV series Riverdale, which concluded in 2023.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller boast some prestigious achievements along their career, especially when it comes to animation. The duo were behind both The Lego Movie and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, as well as producing The Lego Batman Movie and The Mitchells vs. The Machines.
Recently, however, they’ve been most well known for writing and producing the award-winning Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, as well as its 2023 sequel and its impending third film.
Hollywood Reporter notes that the script will be penned by Tom King. Although new to screenwriting, with Archie being his first film project, King is no stranger to the world of comics. He’s worked continuously for DC Comics in particular, writing for characters like Batman, Superman, Nightwing, and many others. One of his most renowned works, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, formed the basis of what will be next year’s Supergirl, the next film installment in the DCU. On top of that, he’s also set to write for the HBO series Lanterns releasing next year, also a part of the DCU.
