From the depths of Atlantis returns Aquaman director James Wan, who will be officially working with Universal alongside his Atomic Monster production banner on a monster horror epic, according to Deadline. It’s a decision that directly ties into the studio’s glorious past of developing monster films. Wan has tasked with producing the film while Robbie Thompson will be writing its script.

Details regarding the film’s plot are currently unknown and are expected to be aligned with Universal’s cinematic universe for its classic monster films, although the studio confirmed that it will also concentrate on stand-alone entries. The studio recently discovered success with their recent blockbuster The Invisible Man. Word of Wan’s hiring arrived just in time, as Atomic Monster is currently tinkering with other Wan-helmed projects like Malignant, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and the Mortal Kombat reboot. Atomic Monster will also have a hand in the Netflix title There’s Someone Inside Your House and season four of CBS’ revamp of MacGyver.

Thompson contributed to multiple Marvel comic book titles and previously served as an assistant executive producer on the Lady of the Lake origin story Cursed, which is being overseen by Frank Miller and Thomas Wheeler.
