Anya Taylor-Joy to Join Cast of ‘Marrowbone’

It looks like Anya Taylor-Joy, who will be playing the lead/title character in the upcoming sci-fi horror thriller Morgan, has landed another starring role. She will be the latest edition in the cast of Marrowbone, a psychological thriller with a tone similar to that of J. A. Bayona’s The Orphanage. Bayona will serve as a producer for this film, the directorial debut of Spanish screenwriter Sergio G. Sanchez, who wrote the screenplay for The Orphanage back in 1997.

The film will focus on a young man and his four younger siblings plagued by a sinister presence in their manor following the death of their mother. Now, the five of them must confront this presence and the secret of their beloved mother’s demise, with the state of their relationship hanging in the balance.

Currently, Marrowbone will be distributed by Lionsgate International, and will be co-produced by Bayona collaborators Belén Atienza, Álvaro Augustin and Ghislain Barrois.

I think that it’s going to be really exciting to see what Sergio has to bring as a director,” said Atienza. “I think that anyone that has read the scripts written by Sergio can say he’s already a film-maker.

As for Taylor-Joy, her latest film Morgan is directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, The Martian) and will have her star alongside Kate Mara, Paul Giamatti and Toby Jones. The film will focus on Mara as Leigh Weathers, a corporate troubleshooter who is sent to a remote, top-secret location in order to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She eventually learns that the event was triggered by Morgan (Taylor-Joy), an artificial being created via lab experiment and who Jones’ character describes as “the next step in evolution.” Now, with Morgan’s abilities proving both infinite power and danger, Weathers must determine whether or not her life is to be terminated. Morgan will be released in theaters on September 2, 2016.

Amongst Taylor-Joy’s other recent performances include Robert Eggers’ critically acclaimed indie horror The Witch, as well the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan film Split, in which she will star alongside James McAvoy.
