Universal Pictures plans to campaign Anne Hathaway for awards this year for her performance as Penelope in The Odyssey. The studio intends to campaign the performance in the “Best Supporting Actress” category during this year’s awards circuit.
While it is not a huge surprise that Anne Hathaway will be in the awards conversation, it does firmly place her in one category, as there was some question as to which category she would compete in. This is likely the beginning of a massive awards push for The Odyssey. Nominations for Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Best Actor for Matt Damon, and many more are all on the table. This would make for Christopher Nolan’s second film in a row being a major Oscar contender, with Oppenheimer winning 7 Oscars at the 2024 Academy Awards.
Anne Hathaway has already won an Oscar for her role in Les Misérables. The actress has starred in 5 movies this year, being The Odyssey, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Mother Mary, The End of Oak Street, and the upcoming Verity. Of all of them, The Odyssey is where she is most likely to get awards attention.
