The End of Oak Street, starring Anne Hathaway (Devil Wears Prada) and Ewan McGregor (Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith), reached number one on Apple TV’s streaming list according to Collider. After a month in theaters, the movie was released on streaming platforms last Tuesday.
The movie follows Hathaway as Denise Platt and McGregor as Greg Platt, as they try to protect their family after prehistoric creatures appear in their neighborhood. The movie currently holds an 86% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes accompanied, by an 75 % audience score. Globally, the film grossed $120 million against a budget of $85 million. The film was also David Robert Mitchell’s third feature film project, with his first being It Follows back in 2017.
In an interview with Au Review, Mitchell was asked about how his inspiration came from a picture of a dinosaur going through a suburban trash can, and how much do pictures inspire him.
“It probably wasn’t just the image. It’s always a long list of things that I’d like to do. I’ll always have a writing folder for how I’d like to make a movie like this. I thought it would be cool to try and make a dinosaur film, but I wasn’t sure what the way into it was. Then seeing and feeling that image, I understood that it really had to be about the sort of mundane suburb and what is safe about our home colliding with these large animals.”
