Andrew Garfield Reflects On His Past Experiences With Heath Ledger

Actor Andrew Garfield has begun to make the press rounds ahead of his newest film, We Live In Time. Garfield took the opportunity to discuss an earlier film, however, and his experience with one of the main actors.

Garfield’s new film, directed by John Crowley, sees a man and woman, played by Garfield and Florence Pugh, learn about love and their own relationship while being given a limited window of time to try and spend a lifetime together.

While on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Garfield talked about past experiences that he had with late actor Heath Ledger.

Garfield and Ledger appeared in one film together, Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus, alongside Christopher Plummer and Lily Cole.

While working on the film together, Ledger showed him some tips on a photo of himself that appeared in Empire magazine. Ledger was unhappy with the way the photo looked, and explained why. He capped off his explanation with a simple “you’ll see,” and, years later, Garfield said, “and yeah, I did see.”

Garfield also looked back on the conversation the two would have once The Dark Knight wrapped production, but wasn’t fully released yet.

The Dark Knight, on top of being one of the most iconic comic book films of all time, became one of, if not the most iconic roles of Ledger’s, which saw him play the Joker. Unfortunately, Ledger died shortly before the film hit theaters.

Hollywood Reporter also noted that it was his work as Batman’s most iconic villain that wound up earning him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor posthumously.

Once Garfield had the chance to ask Ledger how filming went, Ledger responded by telling him, “it’s really good.”

“He was just a very generous, beautiful, creative spirit,” he also had to say of the late actor.
