Amy Landecker Lands Role in Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’

The universe of Marvel’s Doctor Strange continues to expand with the latest addition of Amy Landecker (Amazon’s award-winning series Transparent).

According to TheWrap, Landecker is on board but her role is not yet known. She will get to reunite with Michael Stuhlbarg (Trumbo), who was announced as part of the Strange cast earlier this month. She and Stuhlbarg starred together in the Coen brothers’ comedy-drama, A Serious Man.

The rest of the intriguing cast of Doctor Strange is comprised of Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Oscar winner Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton), Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years Slave), as well as Rachel McAdams (Sherlock Holmes franchise) and Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale).

At the D23 Expo earlier this summer, director Scott Derrickson (The Day the Earth Stood Still) confirmed that the Jon Spaihts (Prometheus)-penned screenplay centers on the origin story of Doctor Strange (Cumberbatch), a top-notch neurosurgeon whose hands get mangled in a car accident. His worldwide search for a cure leads him to The Ancient One (Swinton), who teaches him the mystic arts. His main nemesis, Baron Karl Mordo (Ejiofor), was a one-time student of The Ancient One who turns to evil. Mikkelsen’s role is rumored to be one of the villains opposite Strange. Stuhlbarg will play Dr. Nicodemus West, a character in the original Marvel comic books, who performed hand surgery on Strange and through a series of events, also gets partially trained in the mystic arts by The Ancient One. Like Landecker’s, McAdams’s role has not yet been made clear.

Landecker will be seen next in her returning role as Sarah Pfefferman on Transparent, starting December 11. She was in Nicole Holofcener’s Enough Said and was part of the ensemble cast in last year’s time travel sci fi Project Almanac. Next year will see her in Lorene Scafaria’s The Meddler which bows on April 22, starring Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon (The Calling) and Rose Byrne (Spy). She is also in Jonathan Mastow’s action thriller Hunter’s Prayer which is currently in post-production.

Doctor Strange is currently shooting and has a release date of November 4, 2016.
