Amazon Prime Video has released the trailer for Being The Ricardos full of 50s nostalgia and Konga music. The film will star Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball and Javier Bardem as Desi Arnaz in their tumultuous married life behind the cameras.
The show that made the 1950s look progressive with a dreamy Cuban musician married to an exasperating caucasian housewife with no children is coming to the big screen on December 10th. I Love Lucy might have been amusing and entertaining for their audiences but the lives of the two main protagonists, who were actually married in real life, were very different.
Going with the fast beat of the Konga drum, the trailer gives short glimpses of the friction going on between Lucy Ball and Desi Arnaz behind the cameras. While Arnaz, played by Acadamy Award-winning Javier Bardem, seems to be enjoying life and fame thanks to the show, Lucille Ball played by Academy Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman, seems to just look at it as a well-paid job. Her line in the trailer, “All I have to do is kill for 36 weeks and then do it again next year” contrasts strongly with her husband’s enthusiastic shout out “Ladies and Gentleman, enjoy the show!”. Fans of the original 1950s show will be delighted to see Nicole Kidman reenact some memorable scenes from I Love Lucy, such as the grape stomping showdown.
Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin and starring an A-list cast with Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem, and J.K. Simmons, Amazon Prime is looking to receive some recognition for the 2022 award season. Though the trailer looks promising, we’ll have to wait and see the film once it hits theaters on December 10th. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more news on Being The Ricardos.
