Even with the shaky nature of the release and reception of films within the current DC cinematic universe, many fans have been holding out hope and staying upbeat for future releases. The next installment in DC’s Extended Universe is James Wan’s Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa as the titular superhero. The film is set to release in U.S. cinemas on December 21 of this year, but now it seems there is a way for fans to see it five days early.
Subscribers to Amazon Prime services will be able to see advance screenings of Aquaman in certain theaters nationwide. Some of the movie theater chains said to be taking a part in such are Regal Cinemas, Cinepolis, Bow Tie Cinemas, ArcLight, Showcase Cinemas, and Studio Movie Grill. This advanced screening will give many fans a chance to see it before the busy official release, avoiding packed theaters and the last-minute holiday rush.
According to Rerelease News, Prime members can expect that tickets will be made available soon, likely through an Atom Tickets link at which they can purchase up to ten tickets. These early screenings will take place at 7 pm on December 15, though China and the United Kingdom will still see a wide release for the film at least a week before these Amazon Prime advanced viewings.
Whether Aquaman will perform successfully (commercially or critically) remains to be seen, but Amazon and Warner Bros.’ hope that early screenings will attract a handful of both new and seasoned DC viewers, while simultaneously generating some much-needed positive word of mouth.
