‘Alien: Covenant’ Video Features Katherine Waterston in Hypersleep

Despite the initial reports that Ridley Scott’s Prometheus was not going to be officially connected to the Alien franchise, the sequel’s new title, Alien: Covenant, has definitely changed things. But at this point, it’s still unclear as to how close this prequel-sequel will be to the four original films. However, the details that have recently been released from set tease that we may be getting even more Alien lore than what Prometheus had.

Some of the most exciting peaks we have had from set showcase wonderfully nostalgically production design, familiar characters, and the introduction of Katherine Waterston’s mysterious heroine, Daniels. In honor of the film being exactly one year away from release, 20th Century Fox (via the official Alien Facebook page) released a new video that features Waterston in hypersleep. Check it out below.

Waterston’s character is informally stepping in the shoes of Noomi Rapace’s character, Elizabeth Shaw, from Prometheus. Early reports stated that Rapace was not returning for the sequel, but recent details reveal that she may actually have some part to play in Covenant. There will hopefully be a trailer sometime in the next few months, and maybe a few more plot details will surface with it. Neil Blomkamp’s Alien 5 is still in the works, so it will be interesting to see how Covenant connects with the big picture of the franchise.

Alien: Covenant opens on August 4, 2017.
