The marketing department for Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien: Covenant is playing coy. While the 20th Century Fox title and second precursor to the Alien franchise has yet to release a trailer or offer us any sort of expansive information on terms of plot and character, new images have been teased online in the last few hours. Oh, and it appears that James Franco will appear in the film as well.
Franco, while promoting his new comedy Why Him?, confirmed his participation in Alien: Covenant during an interview with HeyUGuys, cryptically stating, “The news is out, I guess?” Franco joins an impressive ensemble cast that includes Michael Fassbender (returning as enigmatic android David), Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Guy Pearce (Equals), Billy Crudup (20th Century Women), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Danny McBride (This Is the End), Damián Bichir (The Hateful Eight) and Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color); Prometheus alum Noomi Rapace is also expected to appear, reprising her role of Dr. Elizabeth Shaw. Michael Green, John Logan and Jack Paglen wrote the script while Ridley Scott returned to the director’s chair.
The plot of Alien: Covenant reads so far as the crew of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but it is actually a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Also, new images arrived on social media with the numbers “220512051204” and “120112062104” captioned. Any thoughts on what they possibly mean? Alien: Covenant will hit theaters on May 19, 2017.
