During Disney’s ‘Investor Day’ live stream, Kevin Feige revealed the extended cast of the highly anticipated MCU film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The film, which stars Simu Liu in the leading role, is set to release July 9, 2021.
The additional cast members revealed include In the Mood for Love star Tony Leung as Wenwu, The Farewell star Awkwafina as Shang Chi’s friend Katy, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’s Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan. We also know that The Undoing star Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Creed actor Florian Munteanu, and Saturday Night Live’s Ronny Chieng will also appear in the upcoming film.
The story centers around the titular Shang-Chi, who is forced to confront the past he thought he left behind when he’s drawn into the mysterious web of the Ten Rings organization. Just Mercy director Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the film with a script from comic book writer Jim Starlin and Wonder Woman 1984 screenwriter David Callaham.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is just one of the many MCU projects on the way after a quiet year for the cinematic universe. But, for marvel fans, 2021 looks to be an exciting year. On May 7, the long-awaited Black Widow film will finally release in theaters, followed up by Shang-Chi in the summer. The star-studded The Eternals is slated for November 5, and we’ll hopefully see the still untitled Spider-Man: Far From Home Sequel December 17, 2021.
