Actor Charles Dierkop Dead At 87

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Police Woman star Charles Dierkop had died at the age of 87 after a heart attack and a recent fight against pneumonia.

His death was revealed by his daughter, Lynn, to The Hollywood Reporter, to which he died the day before the article was written.

Born Sept. 11, 1936, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Dierkop was raised by his aunt and uncle. In the 1950’s he would go on to fight in the Korean War until 1955, after which he would turn his attention to acting.

While the actor first started out getting uncredited parts in TV, he would end up having a career that spanned from the early 1960’s all the way until his final role in 2018, according to his IMDb page.

His breakthrough role on the big screen was Flat Nose Curry in the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Getting the role was actually pretty swift, as the name of the character was available to Dierkop’s agent when reading the script. Seeing the name made his agent immediately think of him, as Dierkop had actually broken his nose four times during his childhood due to getting into fights.

He would eventually find success on the small screen in the series Police Woman, playing Royster, one of the main cast detectives of the series, for its whole series.

Some of Dierkop’s appearances in other television and film included Bonanza, Fantasy Island, MacGyver, Night of the Cobra Woman, Messiah of Evil and The Midnighters.

While it had been years since his final appearance on the big screen, Dierkop made an impact in both television and film during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
