A tragic accident has occurred on the set of Alec Baldwin’s new western movie Rust. When the actor used a prop gun on set, he shot and killed the director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, by accident. Also seriously injured was the director of the film Joel Souza.
Yesterday, Thursday, October the 21st, actor and producer Alec Baldwin shot a prop gun on the New Mexico set for the western film Rust and consequently fatally wounded the director of photography Halyna Hutchins. Director Joel Souza was sent to the hospital, and has since been released.
According to Consequence Film, The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department commented on the incident: “Detectives are investigating how the prop firearm was used and what type of projectile was discharged. This incident remains an active investigation. As more information becomes available, updates will be provided.”
Today Mr. Baldwin has posted the following statement on Social Media: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, a mother, and a deeply admired colleague of ours. I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”
Rust is written and directed by Joel Souza with Alec Baldwin as the co-creator and co-producer of the film. Besides Alec Baldwin himself, the movie also co-stars actors Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Brady Noon (Broadwalk Empire), Frances Fisher (Titanic).
