The A24 movie False Positive was co-written and produced by Ilana Glazer and John Lee. Glazer will also star in the film that will be directed by Lee. Hulu announced on Monday that they landed rights to the film and will debut as a Hulu original in 2021.
False Positive is Glazer and Lee’s feature film co-writing debut after working on Broad City together. The film follows Lucy (Glazer), who meets an ideal fertility specialist, Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan), after struggling to get pregnant. After becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy starts to find something suspicious through Hindle’s gleaming charisma. She sets out to discover the disturbing truth about him and her own “birth story.” As if getting pregnant weren’t complicated enough. Lucy’s husband, Adrian, will be played by Justin Theroux.
Gretchen Mol (Nightflyers), Sophia Bush (One Tree Hill), and Josh Hamilton (Eighth Grade) are also starring in the film. The story was co-written with Lee and Alissa Nutting, and then the script co-authored with Glazer. Jonathan Wang produced the film alongside Lee and Glazer.
Glazer talked to Variety and iHeart podcast, The Big Ticket with Marc Malkin, last June when she wrapped filming False Positive and had this to say about it. “It’s going to be insane,” Glazer said. “It’s about the patriarchy…as expressed through medicine.”
