It has been reported that a new sci-fi fantasy film is in development at A24 from director Panos Cosmatos. He is most known for Mandy, a psychedelic horror film starring Nicolas Cage.
The new film from Cosmato is titled Nekrokosm, and the story will be developed by Cosmatos and Maegan Houang, who will also write the screenplay. The story has been teased as taking place “deep within a strange galaxy, [where] two lovers are torn apart as they try to survive a malevolent invasion in this phantasmagorical fantasy nightmare.”
A24 has come up as one of the leading horror film studios in recent years with films like The Lighthouse, Midsommar, The Witch, and Hereditary. Not only are these films carving out a new subgenre of horror that some call “elevated horror,” but they are almost always well-received. The studio currently has Ti West’s X in theaters, starring Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, and Brittany Snow, which has also been met with great reviews. This new film seems to be within the elevated horror genre and will likely fit right in with the rest of A24’s films.
