A Japanese film from over ten years ago has been chosen to be remade for American audiences, with a plot fairly similar to this year’s Everything, Everything, but just different enough to stand out. Midnight Sun has officially received its first trailer, and it looks to make us all sympathize with the main character and her unfortunate illness:
Midnight Sun follows Katie, who is unable to go out during the daytime because of an illness that is attributed to sunlight and can be deadly with little interaction to the sun’s rays. This leads Katie to spend her time sleeping through the day and spending her time outdoors at night. Eventually, she catches the eye of a boy who she’s seen many times from outside of her house. They eventually form a budding relationship where she begins to enjoy all of the activities she never got to experience because of her disease. However, tension arises when she withholds the truth of her illness from him, changing their relationship.
The film stars a solid cast including Bella Thorne, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Rob Riggle. The film is being directed by Scott Speer with a script by Eric Kirsten. The film looks to be released on March 23rd, 2018.
