Universal Pictures are the latest in the release date shuffle that many studios are taking part in as we approach this upcoming holiday season. On Wednesday it was announced that The Croods: A New Age will be rescheduled to Nov 25, 2020, shifting from the original date of Dec 23, 2020. According to Deadline, the film will be available for Premium Video-on-Demand (PVOD) in time for Christmas.
With a theatrical release at the start of the extended Thanksgiving weekend and a PVOD release while families get together at home around Christmas time, The Croods: A New Age could shape up to be a successful follow-up to 2013’s The Croods, which grossed total of $587 million worldwide. The new venture featuring the prehistoric family will be Joel Crawford’s directorial debut. Crawford is perhaps best known for his work on the Kung Fu Panda films.
The Croods: A New Age will see the return of Actors Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, and Catherine Keener as the titular cavemen and cavewomen. Making the cast even more stellar this time around are Peter Dinklage, Leslie Mann, and Kelly Marie Tran. Mark Swift is credited as producing the stone-age sequel.
Competing with The Croods: A New Age that same week will be MGM’s upcoming James Bond outing No Time to Die, Disney and Pixar’s animated feature Soul, both of which are currently scheduled to release five days prior, on Nov 20, 2020. Voyagers from Lionsgate and The Happiest Season are two major films that are slated to release the same day as Croods, on Nov 25, 2020.
