‘A Minecraft Movie’ Jolts The Box Office And The Movie Theater Auditoriums

A Minecraft Movie is setting an astounding number of box office records while attracting different kind of theater-going experience. In order to participate in a recent TikTok trend, moviegoers have been trashing auditoriums and creating a chaotic environment. One person was even ejected after holding up live chicken on camera.

The Jared Hess-directed movie stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks and Emma Myers. It is co-produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.

The film marked a record opening for a Warner Bros.-Legendary co-production. It beat out their past collaborations, including The Dark Knight Rises, and set the record for the biggest opening weekend of 2025, ahead of Captain America: Brave New World.

Though the profit of this video-game inspired film is a dream for studios, theater workers don’t seem to feel the same. The Hollywood Reporter found online posts from outraged cinema employees:

‘Omfg, I thought Wicked was bad but nothing can top what happened with Minecraft… During one of our shows we had to kick out THIRTY, yes THIRTY, teenage boys.’

As a result of the commotion, some theaters added disclaimers at the beginning of the film that the local authorities may be called for unruly behavior. Some theaters have mandated the accompaniment of an adult despite the PG ratings,

While the excitement from audiences is encouraged in a time of slowed down attendance, it seems as though employees are ready for this craze to end:

‘I’ve never had another movie where we constantly had complaints of loud, annoying kids that we had to kick out,” wrote another. “Don’t even get me started on how bad the theaters are to clean. I genuinely hate this movie.’
