In the Sundance dark comedy The Overnight, Adam Scott (NBC’s Parks and Recreation) and Taylor Schilling (Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black) star as married couple who have just moved to Los Angeles from Seattle with their young son. When they meet their free-spirited neighbor at the park (Jason Schwartzman, I Heart Huckabees), he invites them to a family dinner party at his house that eventually turns into a night of (comedic) sexual exploration.
The film was written and directed by Patrick Brice as his second feature and was produced by Mark and Jay Duplass (Safety Not Guaranteed), under their Duplass Brothers banner, as well as Scott’s company Shingle. Mark Duplass also co-wrote and starred in Brice’s first indie film, Creep. With both the Duplasses and Schwartzman attached, the film will likely follow the tone of comedic realism that they are known for.
The film opened to rave reviews at Sundance and was picked up for distribution by the fledgling distributor The Orchard. The company plans to release The Overnight in theaters on June 19. Check out the trailer below, which sees Scott and Schilling stumbling their way through various sexual situations all in the span of one night.
