’28 Years Later’ Trailer: Terrifying First Look At The Return Of The Zombie Rage Virus

Director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) and writer Alex Garland (Civil War, Annihilation) have finally reunited more than two decades after first dropping audiences into the zombie-afflicted wasteland in 2002’s 28 Days Later. The original film starred Cillian Murphy and was heralded for its interesting rage-infested take on a popular horror subgenre.

The first trailer for 28 Years Later by Sony Pictures makes it known that days have turned to years since the apocalyptic event first began, and humanity has not healed. Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nosferatu, Kraven the Hunter) and Jodie Comer (The Bikeriders) are among the survivors seen navigating a dangerous and savage planet Earth, overrun by the infected. Ralph Fiennes (Conclave) also makes an appearance in the trailer, as well as returning star Murphy, seen unrecognizable for a split second as a malnourished version of himself. It is currently unclear if his character will be afflicted by the virus.

The film’s official description reads: “Sometime after the events of 28 Weeks Later, the Rage Virus has returned, and a group of survivors must survive in a world ravaged by hordes of the infected.”

The film will be followed by an already-shot sequel subtitled The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels).  Cillian Murphy is also expected to return.

28 Years Later releases June 20th, 2025.
