The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) have announced their nominations for the 23rd Annual Critics’ Choice Awards. The gala event will air live on the CW Network on January 11, 2018. The show will be produced by Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment.
In film, leading the pack with 14 nominations including for Best Picture is Guillermo del Toro’s fantasy love story between woman and an amphibious fishman, The Shape of Water. Eight nominations each including for Best Picture went to historical dramas Dunkirk and The Post, and coming-of-age stories Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird. Completing the ten best picture nominees were The Big Sick, Darkest Hour, The Florida Project, Get Out, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
BFCA president Joey Berlin said that, “2017 has proved to be an incredibly exciting year in movies — and one of the most wide-open in terms of awards possibilities,” announcing the nominations. The mix of legendary filmmakers and performers along with vibrant new voices representing fresh and varied styles and perspectives has entertained and challenged critics and audiences alike. It’s been a joy to experience these films and we can’t wait to celebrate them all on January 11.”
