The Sundance Institute has announced its official dates for the upcoming 2025 Sundance Film Festival. It is slated for a January 23rd to February 2nd run next year in Park City, Utah.
Like this year’s festival, festival director Eugene Hernandez has high hopes regarding the festival’s future and what it could bring to the cinema. Even though 2025 is many months away, Hernandez hopes to use the festival to share “a new group of artists’ work with audiences at the start of next year.” He recalled how his first year as a festival director helped introduce him and, by extension, the moviegoing community to “so many moving, inspiring stories of discovery with emerging and established artists from around the world connecting with festivalgoers.”
With this goal, the Sundance Institute looks to recapture this wonder while continuing to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. From this year alone, studios like Netflix, Warner Bros, and Searchlight made incredible deals to help bring films to wider audiences. Because of this, this year’s festival was considered “a return to form after years of struggling with the pandemic and its aftermath.”
Since the festival is slated to occur near the end of January, it will be closer to the Berlin Film Festival, which runs from February 13th to the 23rd. There shouldn’t be any serious issues with this proximity, but things could easily change based on entry and presentation requirements.
