Our first in-depth peek into the new Pride and Prejudice and Zombies film is finally here in the form of movie stills, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. The film will be based on the titular Seth Grahame-Smith parody novel, which follows the basic structure, plot, setting, and characters of Jane Austen’s famous and beloved Pride and Prejudice, only with the added threat of zombies and imminent danger, making the stakes exponentially higher. Elizabeth Bennett will be forced to navigate the murky waters of love, marriage, and charting her own path while zombies attempt to eat her brains.
It is because of this supernatural plot twist that the look and feel of Austen’s world of manners has also been turned on its head. The images feature the characters gearing up for battle, violently taking on zombies, and showing a lot more skin than even the original novel’s boundary-pushing heroine would dare expose. The last of the stills does hearken back to Austen’s romantic and more proper literary time period, however, for good measure.
Cinderella and Downton Abbey star Lily James plays the film’s leading lady Lizzy Bennett. Accompanying her are Sam Riley (On the Road) as her eventual flame Mr. Darcy, Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows) as her sister and confidante Jane Bennett, Jack Huston (American Hustle) as Mr. Wickham, Douglas Booth as Mr. Bingley, Matt Smith (Dr. Who) as Mr. Collins, as well as Game of Thrones’ Charles Dance as patriarch Mr. Bennett and Lena Headey as a famed zombie warrior.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days writer and 17 Again director Burr Steers wrote the adapted script as well as directed the film.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies hits theaters February 5, 2016.
