Worst Movie Doctors

There are many movie featuring doctors and medical “professionals” all over pop culture. But this list focuses on some of the absolute worst. One thing is for sure, these doctors are no Patch Adams.

Dr. Giggles (Dr. Giggles) (1992)

This is a guy you definitely don’t want to do surgery on you. He is constantly laughing and has the most annoying laugh anyone has ever heard. Not only that but he will be making countless doctor puns in literally every sentence he has, and I mean every sentence. Oh and also he will probably end up cutting out your heart while you are still alive somehow.

Movie wise this one is not all that great. The kills are creative but overall come across a bit underwhelming. There are a few stand out ones but it is mostly a lot of scalpel trauma. The performance from Keith Diamond is honestly a huge bright spot in this movie, you could even call it a diamond in the rough (I’m sorry it’s the movie’s fault). It is a shame he never really ended up being a lead in anything else, he has great presence and can really carry a movie. Larry Drake is good at being this character I suppose, but me hating the character makes me kind of hate his performance as well.

Overall, I would pass on both Dr. Giggles the surgeon and the movie. It is supposed to be “dark humor” but it is just not very funny. I cannot stress enough how much literally every single line is a doctor pun and how quickly annoying that becomes. If you are going to watch it, I challenge you to count how many puns there are and I almost guarantee it is over fifty.

Dr. Alan Feinstone (The Dentist) (1996)

Let’s start by saying “absolutely not”. Mouth and teeth trauma are some of the grisliest and most uncomfortable forms of violence. Not only does Dr. Feinstone possess those forms of torture he has also the threat of sexual violence as well which is never ever good. This guy is a really bad dude, and Corbin Bernsen gives the performance everything it aims to be, this is absolutely his movie.

This is a much different tone as compared to Dr. Giggles, it is serious and disturbing in so many ways. Yuzna does a crazy job with the effects to make you even more uncomfortable with what you are seeing and even with the serious tone this is still very watchable. It is definitely not a fun slasher, but it is a truly disturbing horror movie that stands out from a lot of the rest of the cheesy doctor led slashers.

This is a watch it once kind of movie. It gives you a slow descent into madness along with some legitimately terrifying body horror. However, you would definitely not want this guy to be working on your mouth or anywhere near you for that matter.

Dr. Louis Creed (Pet Semetary) (1989)

On the surface this guy doesn’t seem too bad. He is in fact a family man who at the beginning of the movie seems perfectly sane. However due to the events of the movie, he really shows his true colors and proves that he maybe shouldn’t have a medical license.

Dale Midkiff plays that swirl into madness very well and him acting alongside the great Fred Gwynne (Herman Munster himself) is a delight to watch. Overall, the movie is a very good King adaptation that is genuinely scary. The effects and makeup will keep you up at night, the pace is a slow burner but not too slow, and the acting is pretty darn good. That in my opinion is an equation for a good little horror movie.

Without giving any spoilers, let’s just say that after you watch the end of this movie you would not want him near you in a medical setting…or anywhere near your cat. This is a solid recommendation that is a must see for any horror fan or any King enthusiasts out there.

So in conclusion the movie passes the movie test, but does Dr. Creed pass the doctor test? I wouldn’t want him as my doctor in normal circumstances but compared to the other contestants on this list he would easily be my first choice (I mean at least his name isn’t Dr. Giggles).

Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Silence of the Lambs) (1991)

Now what can be said that hasn’t been already said about the greatest movie antagonist of all time, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Although he is an amazing character portrayed by the great Anthony Hopkins, that does not necessarily mean he is a good doctor. Chances are he would know how to help you, but instead of doing that he will eat you.

I have a soft spot for this character because Silence of the Lambs is one of my favorite films so personally, I would be honored to be “cared for” by Dr. Lecter, but for everyone else make sure you stay away.

This is one of the greatest movies of all time and if you haven’t seen it, go watch it right now. I could write pages and pages about it but I will let you go watch it for yourself and enjoy every minute of it.

Dr. Herbert West (Re-Animator) (1985)

While technically he is still a student, Herbert West is the type who will freak out on you if you don’t address him as “Doctor”. Played by Jeffery Combs he gives off a snobby, know it all, psychopathic character who reminds everyone of someone they went to high school with. However the kid you went to high school with is probably not obsessed with bringing the dead

back to life.

This movie gives you all the gore and scuzz you could ever want in a horror movie which is what made it such a cult classic. It might make a good double feature with Pet Semetary if you are in the mood for one of the best genres, “movies where cats die and then get resurrected as angry monsters”.

A recommendation for any horror heads but if sleaze bothers you, you might want to skip this one.
