I studied cinema and economics at USC and USF. I had several jobs and internships in entertainment. I have done work as a production assistant, at a production company, and at a literary agency. I have worked at theaters and theme parks. I have been a writer for mxdwn.com television and also mxdwn.com movies.
Charlotte Bronte wrote a novel called “Jane Eyre” and Emily Bronte made a novel called “Wuthering Heights” which were both made into movies. “Wuthering Heights” is a classic romance novel. There are also films that were made of Charles Dicken’s novels “Oliver Twist”, “A Tale of Two Cities”, “David Copperfield”, and “A Christmas Carol”. I read these books and they take place around the same era.
Film adaptations of Jane Austen novels
“Sense and Sensibility” (2026)
“From Focus Features and Working Title comes an irresistible new take on Jane Austen’s iconic Sense and Sensibility: a charming, witty, and deeply relatable story of love and sisterhood starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles.” (IMDb) It is going to be a new film directed by Georgia Oakley this year. I read the book and it was nice, it is similar to “Sense and Sensibility”.
“Pride and Prejudice” (2005)
“When Elizabeth Bennet meets the handsome Mr. Darcy, she believes he is the last man she could ever marry, but as their lives become intertwined, she finds herself captivated by the man she has sworn to hate forever.” (IMDb) This was made into a film directed by Joe Wright and starring Keira Knightly.
Film adaptations of The Bronte Sisters Novels

“Wuthering Heights” (2026)
“A passionate and tumultuous love story set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire moors, exploring the intense and destructive relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw.” (IMDb)This film is directed by Emeral Fennell and stars Margot Robbie and Job Elordi. I read the book and saw the film. There are some older film adaptations of this novel. I liked the music, it was by Charlie XCX.
Film adaptations of Charles Dickens novels
“Oliver!” (1968)
“After being sold to the mortician Sowerberry, young orphan Oliver Twist runs away and meets a group of boys trained to be pickpockets by their elderly mentor Fagin in 1830s London in this musical based on Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist.”(IMDb) I read the book and saw the film. It is a good movie musical.
“A Tale of Two Cities” (2026)
“A pair of lookalikes, one a former French aristocrat and the other an alcoholic English lawyer, fall in love with the same woman amidst the turmoil of the French Revolution.” (IMDb) Directed by Daniel West and starring Kit Harrington.
“The Personal History of David Copperfield” (2019)
“A modern take on Charles Dickens’s classic tale of a young orphan who is able to triumph over many obstacles.” Directed by Armando Iannucci and starring Dev Patel and Hugh Laurie.
“Scrooged” (1988)
“A selfish, cynical television executive is haunted by three spirits bearing lessons on Christmas Eve.” (IMDb) This film is based on “A Christmas Carol”. It is directed by Richard Donner, who I saw in person. He also directed “Superman” and “The Goonies”. This film stars Bill Murray. I read the novel and saw the film. It is a funny adaptation that is more modern than the source material. There are some other adaptations of this work notably the one with Jim Carey and “A Muppets Christmas Carol.”
Shakespeare
An older great Author of classic English Authors is William Shakespeare. He wrote many classic plays such as “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Romeo and Juliet”, and “Julius Caesar”. I read some of his plays in High School. There are some good film adaptations of these plays. Some faithful adaptations include “Romeo and Juliet”(1948), “Hamlet”(1968), and “Macbeth”(2015). There is a modern one that is called “10 Things I Hate About You” based on the taming of the shrew. There is another one based on “Romeo and Juliet” called “West Side Story.” I saw a new one based on “Much Ado about Nothing” that was neat called “Anyone But You” starring Sydney Sweeney.
Frankenstein
If you are excited for halloween, “Frankenstein” is another good classic English book. It was written by Mary Shelly. In this novel a scientist attempts to bring a man back to life and creates a monster. This villain scares the townspeople. There are some other films based on this such as “Bride of Frankenstein” and “Young Frankenstein.” Guillermo Del Toro made a film adaptation of this novel last year that was nominated for best picture at the Academy Awards.
Overall I like these authors. I have read most of these books and seen some of the films. I think that English classics can make good film adaptations and they draw talented actors and actresses to their roles. I look forward to seeing the new movie for “Sense and Sensibility,” it will probably be similar to “Pride and Prejudice.”
