Hideout Pictures has just announced that they have acquired the movie rights to the upcoming comic book series Kill Whitey Donovan. According to Deadline, the series was created by comic writer Sydney Duncan, comic artist Natalie Barahona, and editor Brian Stelfreeze, and is being published by Dark Horse.
Kill Whitey Donovan was only just released this December, but the movie adaptation is already moving into production, with Gilmer even being attached to the project and will write the narrative into an action movie. As a writer, Gilmer is best known for her work on Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events series starring Neil Patrick Harris and Patrick Warburton, as well as writing several episodes of the TNT series Claws.
The story of Kill Whitey Donovan takes place during end of the Civil War and follows the adventures of two women: a slave named Hattie Virgil fighting for her freedom and a white woman named Ann Hoyt seeking to avenge her sister’s death. Forced to team up with one another, Hattie must help Ann track down the man responsible for her sister’s death, and in exchange Ann will help Hattie gain her freedom. Based on that description alone, it sounds like Kill Whitey Donovan could be really interesting.
