Swedish-born actor Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies) has been announced to star in the Legendary and Warner Bros. monster pic Godzilla vs. Kong. Deadline first reported the news. Skarsgård will be joining Demián Bichir (The Nun), teen actor Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Kyle Chandler (First Man), Ziyi Zhang (The Cloverfield Paradox), and Brian Tyree Henry (Widows). Millie Bobby Brown, who just completed filming Godzilla: King of the Monsters will reprise her role as Madison Russell in Godzilla vs. Kong. Danai Gurira (Avengers: Infinity War) is rumored to be joining the cast as well. Adam Wingard (Death Note) is set to direct.
Godzilla vs. Kong will be the fourth installment in the MonsterVerse franchise featuring Godzilla and King Kong and produced by Legendary and co-produced and distributed by Warner Bros. Godzilla was the first installment in 2014, followed by last year’s Kong: Skull Island. Third in the series will be Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which will open on May 31, 2019.
Skarsgård won a Golden Globe this year and an Emmy last year for his supporting role as Perry Wright in HBO’s Big Little Lies. He will be seen next year in the romantic war drama The Aftermath starring opposite Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley (Colette). The busy actor has several other projects in the hopper, including Jonathan Levine’s comedy Flarsky and Dan Krauss’ action drama The Kill Team, both currently in post-production.
Godzilla vs. Kong is set to bow in theaters on May 22, 2020.
