James Franco and Bruce Thierry Cheung‘s upcoming film Future World has just released its first trailer, and it looks like audiences are in for a wild ride.
Within a few seconds of the start, we hear the quiet, contemplative voice of Ash (Suki Waterhouse) say, “The world entered a new dark age. I was one of the last synthetics to survive.” Although it’s a small sum of knowledge, we can come to the conclusion that Ash’s robotic make-up is likely a hot commodity in a world of violence, power, and war.
Later, we meet Franco’s character who appears to be a rebellions leader set out to find Ash and take over as the leader in their dark-aged world. With a body swathed in leather and a smile full of decay, he is clearly not someone most would want to mess with unless they want him to tell his minions to “show [him] death.”
Not too long after Franco acquires Ash as his secret weapon, Ash “malfunctions,” and runs from Franco’s evil ways in hopes of saving what little good is left in the world. From then on, action ensues.
The abysmal desert setting, off-road car driving, and fights between good and evil feel incredibly reminiscent of Mad Max: Fury Road. Franco and Waterhouse are joined by Lucy Liu, Snoop Dogg, Milla Jovovich, and many others on the trek toward rule and ultimate power.
Will this film live up to its star-studded cast? We will have to wait and see. Check out the trailer below.
