Marvel fans rejoice! We are finally getting our Hawkeye stand-alone movie. Only he doesn’t have a bow and arrow, and he’s playing a different character. In the surprisingly hilarious-looking Tag, Jeremy Renner plays Jerry, the ultimate tag champion, untouched in a continuous thiry-year-long game of tag perpetuated by a group of best friends. Jeff Tomsic helms the film from the director’s chair.
Here’s the official description from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, who claim that this is based on a true story (if this is true, I want to watch a documentary on the real-life people):
“For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they’ve been playing since the first grade—risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take each other down with the battle cry: “You’re It!” This year, the game coincides with the wedding of their only undefeated player, which should finally make him an easy target. But he knows they’re coming…and he’s ready.”
Renner will play the main character (and target). He will have to fight off a large ensemble cast, filled with big names, and will be running from Rashida Jones (The Social Network), Jon Hamm (Rosemary Prime), Ed Helms (The Office), Isla Fisher (Nocturnal Animals), Leslie Bibb (The League), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders), and Hannibal Buress (The Disaster Artist).
