We are less than a month away from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Highly anticipated and a risky project on the same token, the film is the first in what may be a surplus of standalone Star Wars spin-offs. The film also has both the advantage and potential burden of following last year’s widely admired and massively successful Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which re-juiced the Star Wars brand following the folding of Lucasfilm into the Disney fray. A new spot for the film has just landed.
In Rogue One, “a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.”
Oscar nominated actress Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) headlines and is joined an eclectic ensemble cast that includes Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Godzilla‘s Gareth Edwards directs from a screenplay credited to Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy and story by John Knoll and Gary Whitta. Excited?
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on December 16th.
