After stepping away from the big screen and working in television, Rupert Wyatt is returning to the directors’ chair for Captive State. The Rise of the Planet of the Apes director co-wrote the sci-fi script with his wife Erica Beeney.
According to Variety, sources say a mix of financiers and studios are chasing the rights to the picture in a competitive bidding war. A large deal is expected to be made sometime after Labor Day. Plot details for Captive State are being kept quiet but the film is set to go into production 2017.
The last film Wyatt directed was the 2014 remake of The Gambler. Wyatt is no stranger to being attached to large projects, in fact, he was once attached to direct Fox’s troubled Gambit film, which recently lost director Doug Liman due to scheduling conflicts. Busy working on multiple projects, Wyatt has not been far from the directors’ chair. He is credited as an executive producer and director on Fox’s The Exorcist series.
