Parents may want to look away. The propulsive and confident first trailer for the indie White Girl has arrived, appropriately enough, in NSFW fashion. A variant on the youth-gone-wild subgenre of independent film, the film – which had its world premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival – marks the feature directorial debut of Elizabeth Wood (who also scripted) and calls to mind seminal 90s provocation Kids.

Centering on Leah (Morgan Saylor, best known as Dana Brody on Homeland), a street smart college student, the film tracks her budding romance with a drug dealer Blue (Brian ‘Sene’ Marc, the upcoming Nerve). Problems arise when Blue is arrested and Leah is stuck with a large stash of cocaine and goes to extremes to get him back during one hard-partying New York summer. White Girl, itself a double meaning for the center character and the powdery drug plentifully showcased in the trailer, earned strong reviews out of Sundance particularly for Wood’s stylish direction. (For what it’s worth, Wood is rumored to be in contention to direct Marvel’s upcoming Captain Marvel.) Netflix acquired the title with FilmRise handling its theatrical release. White Girl will have its Los Angeles premiere at the upcoming Sundance NEXT FEST.

White Girl arrives in New York on August 26th, followed by a Los Angeles run starting on September 2nd with additional expansion expected thereafter. Check out the NSFW red band trailer below.
