Billy Bob Thornton (Our Brand is Crisis) will don the flask and and the Santa suit yet again as Miramax and Broad Green Pictures have announced a sequel to the dark comedy Bad Santa. Principle photography is set begin on the sequel of modern holiday classic in January.
Plot details haven’t been released at this time. The original 2004 film followed Willie (Thornton) and Marcus (Tony Cox, Oz the Great and Powerful), a pair of robbers who pose as a department store Santa and Elf. During their stint, Thornton meets a bartender (Lauren Graham, Max) and a young boy (Brett Kelly, Trick ‘r Treat). There has been no word on whether any other members of the original cast will return to the film other than Thorton. The late Bernie Mac (Ocean’s Eleven) and John Ritter (TV’s Three’s Company) also starred in the original.
Doug Ellin (Entourage) is directing and writing the sequel along with Shauna Cross (Whip It), Joan Phillips (Dirty Grandpa) and Johnny Rosenthal. The first Bad Santa was directed by Terry Zwigoff (Ghost World).
The film is set to release in 2016, likely around the holiday season.
