Straight Outta Compton star Jason Mitchell has landed a role in the upcoming King Kong origin story, Kong: Skull Island. Mitchell is riding high after his performance as Eazy-E in the biopic drew critical acclaim and the film was a box office hit.
The young actor is one of the many break out stars from Compton, including co-star Corey Hawkins (Dr. Dre), who has already joined the cast of Kong. Mitchell has previously been in two Mark Walhberg projects, Contraband and Broken City, also starring Russell Crowe. Sources close to Mitchell reveal he will play an easygoing pilot.
Currently shooting Keanu, alongside Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele, Mitchell will soon be seen in the indie film Vincent-N-Roxxy opposite Emile Hirsch and Zoe Kravitz.
Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Toby Kebbell have joined Samuel L. Jackson and John C. Reilly on the trip to Skull Island. Legendary’s prequel will begin production this October on location in Hawaii.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kings of Summer) will direct the monster epic with Thomas Dull and John Jashi coming on board as producers.
Kong: Skull Island isn’t scheduled to hit cinemas until March 2017.
