According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros has hired both Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and Kurt Johnstad (300: Rise of an Empire) to write a script for an Aquaman feature. The two will work on separate scripts though the studio will ultimately move forward with only one. Warner Bros recently announced several release dates for superhero films connected to the DC Comics universe between 2016 and 2020, but did not specify which date would go to Aquaman.
In the comics, Aquaman is the King of Atlantis and a founding member of the Justice League. He can breathe underwater, survive the intense pressure at the bottom of the ocean, swim at super speeds, and communicate telepathically with marine life. Two different versions of Aquaman appeared in DC and Warner’s highly popular Animated Universe. He appeared in a single episode of Superman: The Animated Series voiced by Miguel Ferrer and was a semi-recurring character on Justice League, then voiced by Scott Rummell. Jason Momoa (2011’s Conan the Barbarian) will portray Aquaman in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and would almost certainly reprise the role in a solo film.
The first release date for a currently unspecified DC Comics film is August 5, 2016. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s release was recently moved to March 25, 2016 to avoid competing with Marvel’s Captain America 3.
