The trailer for I Play Rocky was released today, showing Anthony Ippolito (Purple Hearts) as Sylvester Stallone, in this retelling of how the movie Rocky came to be. The trailer opens with Ippolito as Stallone during labor and exercises that mimics the character Rocky that he eventually plays. We get a look at AnnaSophia Robb as Sasha Czack, who was Stallone’s first wife. She is heard telling him, “You need to show everyone who you are,” and tells him later on “Write a script, and give yourself the best part.”

Matt Dillion is also shown as Frank Stallone, Sylvester Stallone’s father, telling him, “Are you delusional, you don’t got the looks to be a movie star. Not to mention you talk like you got rocks in your mouth.” the rest of the trailer shows some of the challenges that Sylvester experienced with the movie, including being rejected to play the main star, breaking his hand during  filming, tight filming schedules and self doubt. The trailer ends with Stallone talking to Carl Weathers, played by Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk), about boxing and how Weathers lied about knowing how to, to which he replies, “I’m an actor goddammit, you always lie.”

The movie is set to come out in November, with the actual date to be determined as of now.
